Garden of Color
Shot by Erin Flandern
Mar 2025 - May 2025Tall, grounded, and textured with time and truth.
In this garden, difference is not distance. The flowers embrace and celebrate the tree. And in return, the tree offers something only it can: outstretched arms, deep roots, and a different kind of grace.
Together, they form a living tapestry. A garden where identity is not uniform but unified. Where color is not only seen, but felt. Where no shape or shade reigns, but all are essential, intertwined, and alive.
The project initially focused on intersectionality, but after a few models dropped out, I was prompted to readapt the narrative. One model’s taller height and tree-like outfit inspired a shift toward a story of embracing and accepting differences. This resonated with my own journey of identity and belonging in a society full of differences.
What I Did:
- Led the creative and logistical execution of the photoshoot as Executive Creative Director.
- Developed the visual identity and theme, utilizing a moodboard as visual reference for the shoot’s conceptual direction.
- Directed a full production team, including models, creative assistants, photographers, BTS crew, and set assistants
- Managed a 3-month planning timeline, delegating deliverables for preparation across creative teams.
- Scouted the garden location in advance, capturing reference shots to plan shot compositions and visual flow
- Oversaw on-set model posing, positioning, and artistic direction to ensure visual cohesion and cinematic impact
